TOUR DE FRANCE:
UNCHAINED

NETFLIX

Now in its third season, Tour de France: Unchained has taken viewers behind the scenes of one of the world’s most gruelling competitive sports. Travelling across France and other European locations, the event is in a different location each day, with the production team covering more than 2,000km in a month.

This production has flexibility and remote working in its DNA, with the technical and production base being in a totally different location each day. The media needs to be processed, ingested and then made available to both the edit teams back in London & Paris, but also the creative team who are on location to help inform future filming decisions. Media management partners The Collectv oversee the capture of the rights holder ISO feeds and the Quadbox shot footage. It’s backed up, wrangled into AVID and regularly shipped back to Creative Remote HQ for further processing.

Once filming has wrapped, the edit team collaborate across both the UK & France, with both locations needing real-time collaboration with editors, producers and execs inputting into edit projects.

A similar team structure is employed to Formula 1: Drive to Survive with Assistant Editors working on dual-AVID profiles, with various plug-ins to support their work. Creative teams use AVID Lite systems in order to reduce costs, and improve on functionality compared to the physical systems offered in most conventional post houses.

Netflix execs for this title are based in Paris, with feedback frequently given via livestream sessions. This helps the production stay on track across multiple territories and time zones, ensuring this tight turnaround project makes it to delivery on time.
